Gaerwen is located on the Island of Anglesey off the coast of North Wales and is easily accessible across either the Menai Bridge or Britannia Bridge. The town itself today lies adjacent to the A5 Holyhead Road which was the major route across the island. Today however the village is less troubled by traffic since the opening of the A55 Expressway which takes traffic around the village. In the early 19th century Gaerwen was described as â€œa hamlet on the Holyhead Road in the neighbourhood of coalminesâ€.
