Ettrick is a remote village in the Borders region of Scotland situated close to Selkirk, approximately 45 miles from Edinburgh. Ettrick is famous as the birthplace of the author James Hogg, known as the Ettrick shepherd, who wrote in both Scots and English, a memorial stands on the site of the cottage where he was born. Historically interesting features include the 18th century Ettrick Kirk, with a memorial stone in the Kirk-yard dated 1619. Ettrick sits in the beautiful and tranquil Ettrick Valley, which runs for 26 miles along the river from Potburn to the eastern edge of Selkirk.
