Escrick is a village of around 1,200 inhabitants, six miles directly south of York. Lying just off the A19 it is very easy to access, and makes a good centre for touring the nearby East Riding, for visits to York with all of its famous attractions, or to quieter but very pretty Selby. For those of a more sporting turn Escrick is handy for York races and, slightly further afield, Wetherby and even Pontefract. If you fancy the outdoors without subsidising bookmakers there is coarse fishing at a small farm facility a couple of miles south of the village, and two or three miles further than that the Skipwith Nature Trail.
