Enniskillen sits spectacularly on a natural island at the centre of Irelandâ€™s Lake District, where Upper Lough Erne meets Lower Lough Erne in County Fermanagh. The town itself is welcoming and attractive with a host of fine eateries and convivial bars, yet most visitors use it as a base to explore the real attractions of the area, the Lough and surrounding countryside. Enniskillenâ€™s first castle was built by Hugh Maguire in the 15th century but was captured and rebuilt by William Cole.
