Elstow is a picturesque village just south west of Bedford whose lovely high street has stark black and white timbered buildings from a bygone age, and thatched cottages, enough to keep artists engaged for ages. Elstow was the birthplace of John Bunyan who wrote ‘Pilgrims Progress’. The church of St Helena and St Mary was once part of a Monastic building that dated back to the 11th Century. The Medieval masterpiece of 15th Century Moot Hall is now a Museum where historical period pieces of fine furniture are proudly displayed.
