Mention Edgbaston to virtually any one and the first thing that they think of is the cricket! Famous for its cricket ground and home to Warwickshire County Cricket Club first established in 1864 by a group of aristocrats and gentlemen, the rest, as they say is history. Edgbaston though can trace its roots back to the Domesday Book and today much of the area is deemed to be Conservation Areas, such as St Augustine’s, Lee Crescent and Ryland Road which cover around half the area. Much of this is down to the Calthorpe Estate as they have through time been particularly diligent in preserving the quality and character of the area.
