Earls Court is an inner-city district of west London, between Kensington and Fulham. It has formerly been known as a centre for gay culture and also for visitors from the Antipodes, but its most famous attraction has long been the Earls Court Exhibition Hall. It's situated on what was once a wasteland stretching between the local railway lines. In 1887, a showground opened there, presenting entertainments, exhibitions and fairground amusements. The next owners stayed with the concept: the great Hall opened in 1937 with a chocolate and confectionary display, and has since hosted countless exhibitions, ceremonies and events including concerts by some of the biggest pop and rock acts in the world.
