A small, attractive village, Dymchurch lies on the south-east coastline at the edge of the Romney Marshes, in Kent between Hythe and St Marys’ Bay. The Dymchurch Wall, four miles long and standing around 20ft high, was built as a sea defence by the Romans to protect the harbour at Port Lympne Over time, in conjunction with the Rhee Wall between New Romney and Appledore, this caused the effect of the deposits from the river Rother becoming rich and fertile farmland. Popular amongst families, Dymchurch’s award-winning, gently cloping sandy beaches stretch for miles towards Folkestone in the east and Dungeness in the west, and are washed completely by the tide twice each day, making them perfect for sandcastle building and donkey rides.
