Dunkeld is a small town in Strathtay, Perth and Kinross, Scotland, 15 miles north of Perth parallel with the River Tay on the north side surrounded by crags and woodland. It was the 9th century capital of Scotland. The ancient town said to have been founded by the son of the King of the Picts c820 and hosts historically interesting structures, Dunkeld was destroyed at the Battle of Dunkeld in 1689, musket ball strikes can still be seen in the walls of the gothic style medieval Dunkeld Cathedral, the town was rebuilt by the 18th century in traditional Scottish style, consisting of a main street with narrow closes.
