Dufftown is a village in the Moray district in Scotland situated 17 miles south of Elgin lying on the River Fiddich. Dufftown is known as ‘The Malt Whiskey Capital’ with seven distilleries erected between 1823 and 1898, it produces more malt whiskey than any other town in Scotland. The settlement was originally known as Mortlach from the Middle Ages. Dufftown was founded in 1817 by James Duff the 4th Earl of Fife and was a planned village set in an area of great historical interest popular with tourists.
