Dubwath is a small settlement between Cockermouth and Keswick, located on the north west shore of Bassenthwaite Lake. The village has the expanse of Thornthwaite Forest and Sale Fell to the south, and over the water lies Skiddaw and its forest. Although there is no general public access to sailing on the waters of Bassenthwaite Lake, the facilities of Bassenthwaite Sailing Club in Dubwath are available for a small fee to RYA members and affiliates. No motor boats are allowed on the lake except for rescue purposes, a fact that helps the tranquillity of the place.
