Dornoch is a Royal Burgh in east Sutherland, designated a National Scenic Area in the Highlands of Scotland. Dornoch is situated on the coast of the Moray Firth at the north shore of the Dornoch Firth. In 2005 Dornoch became the first Fair-trade town in the Highlands. Dornoch is an ancient small town with settlements dating back 4000 years; the area is abundant with chambered cairns, hut circles, a standing stone and relics of the Picts. Dornoch Cathedral was built in 1224 by St. Gilbert, with the first service held in 1239.
