Situated at the north east corner of Norfolk, Cromer is a lively resort town that manages to retain its gentility. The town has a largely Victorian air, as it boomed in that era after the arrival of the railway in 1877, and in the 1890s was rather fashionable. There is something Victorian too about a pier that still has end of the pier shows, and that offers the simple pleasure for children (and their parents) of crabbing, and an excellent beach for the joys of sandcastle building. Crabs are a key component of the town’s identity, with aficionados claiming Cromer crabs are sweeter than those found elsewhere in Britain.
