Perhaps it is its utter lack of concession to the tourist industry that makes Clovelly in North Devon the ideal holiday destination for those wanting to avoid all that goes with the over-commercialised tourist resort. Traffic is banned from the high street and for those not fancying the cobbled walk dropping 400ft in the half mile down to the harbour, a landrover service is provided via the back roads as far as the Red Lion pub. The high street is lined with traditional 16th Century cottages and at the top of the hill is a Heritage Centre.
