The village of Chirk lies nestling alongside the River Ceiriog and adjacent to the Llangollen Canal but it is dominated by Chirk Castle which overlooks the town. Chirk Castle is today owned by the National Trust which is the only remaining Edward I castle that is still lived in today. Built in 1310 this was to defend the Marcher Borders today though it is better known for its parks and gardens, during the summer a variety of events are held here which is always popular with residents and tourists alike.
