Chigwell is a civil parish in the Epping Forest district of Essex, some 11 miles from the centre of London. It is served by a tube station on the Central line. Chigwell now has many large houses such as those on Manor Road and the High Road and is widely regarded as an affluent area, alongside Loughton and Buckhurst Hill, nicknamed ‘the Essex golden triangle’. Chigwell School, a public school, was founded in 1629. Among its many famous past pupils is William Penn, who later went on to found Pennsylvania.
