Near the Cheviot Hills, in the northern part of Northumberland, east of Wooler and southwest of Belford, lies the small rural village of Chatton, in picturesque Glendale. Set within a parish of the same name, within the deanery of Bamburgh, it is located in the valley of the river Till. As the river has changed its course over the centuries, it is believed that the location of the village has also moved, with the present layout around 200 years old. Limestone and rock subsoil with a clay and sand surface has made the area around the river fertile Built as defence in the border raids of the fifteenth century is nearby Fowberry Tower.
