Charminster is a historical and beautiful Dorset village lying one mile north of the county town of Dorchester. The village is full of delightful traditional cottages and possesses a typical old English feel. The village of Charminster, situated on the River Cerne, should not be confused with the Bournemouth suburb of the same name. The river and the small village church of St Mary's give the village its original name Cerneminster, as recorded in 1223. A mosaic pavement has been unearthed in the village dating from Roman times.
