In south east Buckinghamshire, on the edge of the Chilterns and 25 miles from London, is the small but historic village of Chalfont St Giles. The church is Norman, built around 1160, The Vache is an Elizabethan mansion which was home to friends of Captain Cook and Jordans Meeting House (built in 1688) is the most famous of the Quaker meeting houses. There is a duck pond on the green (as well as tea rooms) in this little village, which is fed by the River Misbourne, surrounded by Alms houses, built by Bishop Hare.
