Cairnryan is a small village in Dumfries and Galloway situated on the south-west coast of Scotland overlooking Lochryan on the east shore. The village dates from 1701 with the building of Lochryan House by Colonel Agnew of Croach, it was remodelled c1820 and house still stands to the north of today’s village. Well-known for its important maritime history, Cairnryan, was used as a secret military port and naval base in 1941 and throughout WW2 and was also involved in the Normandy Landings in 1944.
