Burtonwood lies between St Helens and Warrington and is famous for two things, Burtonwood Beer and its former American Airbase. As home to the American bombers during the Second World War it was responsible for the supply of around 30 other American airbases in the UK and it earned the nickname “Lancashire’s Detroitâ€. Burtonwoods history goes back to a time when this was mainly a farming community, and at that time it was part of Lancashire, it was from these rural roots that the heart of the brewing industry was founded and is still very much in evidence today.
