The East Yorkshire village of Burstwick is pretty much an out-of-the-way sort of place, not one that visitors are likely to happen upon unless they are on the way to Spurn Head, which sits a few miles to the east. But therein lies some of the charm of the village. Those who do travel to the area could be forgiven for wondering if they have somehow stumbled south over the Humber, given the resemblance of the Holderness countryside to much of East Anglia. Burstwick, with a population of 1,813, is a sizeable village with the amenities needed to maintain a thriving community: it has its primary school, not one but two pubs – the Nag’s Head and the Hare and Hounds - a shop, and even a chippie.
