Burnsall is undoubtedly one of the prettiest villages in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, particularly noted for the beauty of its riverside setting, and of the bridge spanning the Wharfe there. For a settlement with a population of just 112 at the last census the village has a lot to recommend it to the visitor, not least its setting nestling in the fells, Burnsall Fell itself rising to 1,661 feet. Even before there was a bridge in the place there was probably a ferry to get travellers across the Wharfe, and an inn to lodge and restore them.
