Broseley is to be found in Shropshire and despite its setting today it was not always this picturesque. It was in the17th century a thriving industrial area and then in the 18th and 19th centuries it grew as a major centre for coal mining, iron manufacture earthenware and possibly the manufacture of glass products although there is very little evidence remaining. It had close links with Coalbrookdale on the opposite side of the River Severn and in 1779 the world famous Iron Bridge was built to link these two settlements and the town of Ironbridge was created.
