The motto on Broadstairs' town crest - stella maris - means star of the sea, and it's an apt description. One of several seaside towns on the protruding coastline of the Isle of Thanet, Broadstairs has a warmer, prettier personality than Margate and Ramsgate, its larger neighbours on either side.
