Brandon is a small town and civil parish in the county of Suffolk. Brandon is located in the Breckland area on the border of Suffolk with Norfolk. There is a USAF air base, Lakenheath, just a mile or so away. From prehistoric times the area was mined for flint as can be seen at Grimes Graves, a large Neolithic flint mining complex. Grimes Graves is in the care of English Heritage and is open to the public. It is possible to descend a 9 metre ladder and explore one of the shafts. This is the only shaft of its kind open to the public in Britain.
