Some 13 miles (21km) to the Northeast of Hereford, in the Frome Valley, is the small village of Bishops Frome. In 1086 (Domesday) the manor was in the hands of the Bishop of Hereford - hence the Village`s name. Agriculture was and still is the mainstay of life in and around the Frome Valley; Hops and Hereford`s famous cider apples are both grown in the area, and to cater for the wine drinkers, vines are under cultivation at the nearby Frome Valley Vineyard. The Parish Church of St.Mary probably stands on the site of a Saxon Church although no evidence has been found as yet.
