Berwick-upon-Tweed is a historic town situated on the north bank of the River Tweed in Northumberland on the Scottish Border, the town changed hands many times before 1482, since then it has remained English. Berwick-upon-Tweed is a popular tourist resort, steeped in history with many things to see and do. There is a holiday park and caravan club site, hotels, self-catering accommodation, B&B’s, a good range of shops, beaches and plenty of choice of places to eat. Historically interesting features include the three Tweed bridges including the ‘Old Bridge’ dating from 1611, the remains of the medieval Berwick Castle once subjected to many cross-border battles and the Town Wall built by Elizabeth I to protect the town; these Tudor town walls are almost completely intact and can be walked around in approximately 45 minutes.
