Beddgelert is to be found in the Snowdonia National Park in North Wales at the confluence of the Rivers Colwyn and Glaslyn. It is said that the town was originally settled by Christian missionaries around 700AD and that a hermitage was established on the west bank of the Afon Colwyn. But it is the 13th century that made Beddgelert famous. Llywelyn, Prince of Wales, had a palace here and he had a faithful dog called Gelert and one day he went hunting without his faithful dog. On Llewelyn’s return he found Gelert stained and smeared with blood and his son’s cot was empty, the floor and bedclothes covered in blood.
