Located in northeast England, Beamish is a village in County Durham in the district of Chester-le-Street, situated to the northeast of the town of Stanley. It is located within Hell Hole Wood. The village is home to Beamish Museum, an open-air museum that replicates a northern town of the early twentieth century and tries to show what life was like in a typical northern town. Much of the restoration and interpretation is specific to 1913. Beamish was the first open air museum in England, established in the1970’s under Frank Atkinson’s direction.
