Some Batley Cottages

The West Yorkshire town of Batley is a sizeable one, its population approaching the 45,000 mark. These days roughly one in three of its inhabitants have their roots in the Indian sub-continent, they or previous generations drawn to the town in the 1950s and subsequent decades by the textile industry. The town probably takes its name from an important local family, the Battes, and was mentioned in the Domesday Book. Parts of the Parish Church, All Saints, date from the 13th century, though the majority is 15th century.
