The Derbyshire village of Baslow nestles on the East bank of the Derwint, which skirts the oldest part of the Anglo-Saxon settlement at Bridge End. A triple-arched stone bridge has forded the river since 1603. the old toll house stands at the Eastern end of the bridge, and a little further downstream are traces of the old ford. Travel upstream to scenes of breathtaking beauty where water tumbles over a weir near remains of the corn mill. On the riverside sits St. Anne’s church, restored in the 1850’s, its original 13th Century spire intact.
