Bacton just about qualifies as a North Norfolk village, though it is a world away from the Chelsea-by-the-sea style place further west along the North Sea coast, and is none the worse for that. Having kept its soul and its population where other grander settlements are now weekend retreats for bankers from Kensington, Bacton is quiet and unpretentious, with a brilliant beach into the bargain. There are some lovely cottages dotted about the village, whose population at the last census was 1,130, but not enough to merit being bought up by the smart set.
