Auldgirth is a small historic village in Nithsdale in Dumfries and Galloway in Southern Scotland situated 8 miles north-west of Dumfries on the River Nith. The Auldgirth Inn was built by monks from Melrose Abbey as a sanctuary c1500 it is now a traditional pub/hotel marking the end of the village; two centuries ago Robert Burns Scotland’s National Poet was a well-known visitor to the inn.
