Ammanford (Rhydamman) is the fourth largest town in Carmarthenshire. Historically it was a C18 stopover point for stagecoaches after fording the river Amman, a centre of the coal industry and site of a famous anthracite strike when miners took over the town for ten days. Ammanford hosted the National Eisteddfod in 1922 and 1970 and was granted Fair-trade status in 2002. Ammanford is close to many attractions such as Aberglasney Gardens. The restoration is an ongoing project: nine acres of landscaping, two woodlands and a cloistered garden – mostly wheelchair accessible.
