Aldwych has been a home to London theatre since the street was first built at the turn of the 20th Century, although there are plenty of other attractions for the visitor to explore in and around the area. Situated just a short walk from the Thames, Aldwych is bounded on the west by the market stalls, shops and zany street entertainers of Covent Garden and on the east by Fleet Street and the edge of the City. It had been decided from the outset that Aldwych would be a centre for the performing arts.
