Airdrie is a historic town in North Lanarkshire in Scotland situated one mile to the east of Coatbridge, 11 miles east of Glasgow. Airdrie’s history dates back to the battle of Airdrie AD577, where the King of Strathclyde defeated the King of Kintyre for the land. The town developed in the 17th century from a farm steading, hand-loom weaving was the main industry in the 18th century and the town was granted burgh status in 1821 although this was lost it in 1975 when Airdrie became part of the Monklands district.
