Abertillery is an interesting old coal mining town nestling in the Welsh Valleys in Gwent, south east Wales, and is home to over eleven thousand people. From the quiet, humble beginnings of a small hamlet, the town erupted and the population expanded when the Coal Mines and the Industrial Revolution arrived with a vengeance, workers were enticed from the surrounding areas and interestingly also from Somerset. The Somerset Miners worked alongside Welsh Miners sharing their knowledge of Wall mining, the town prospered with its heavy industry of coal, tin plate, and steel works.
