Aberdare is a busy town in the Cynon Valley in southern Wales, just 23 miles from the city of Cardiff, and is home to over thirty one and a half thousand people. It dates far back into the pages of history with ancient burial sites, Cairns and standing stones nearby that still survive today. From humble beginnings the town grew into a strategic and pulsating centre of iron and tin production, and was later known for it's mass of coal mines which swelled the population by thousands in the 19th Century, it's legacy of coal mining is woven deep into the very heart of this town remnants of which can be glimpsed in Dare Valley Country Park where skeletons of coal mines remain, once a scarred landscape from the activity below, is now re-planted and touched by nature's beauty.
