Midway between Worcester and Tenbury Wells and seven miles south-west of Stourport is the Village of Abberley. Known to the Saxons as Eodaldelega, possibly after Eobald a local Chieftain. Abberley came to the fore in 1405 when the army of Henry IV - on Abberley Hill - faced the Welsh/French army of Owain Glyndwrs (Owen Glendower) camped on Woodbury Hill, for eight days they stared at each other across the valley until, with this supply lines being harried by Henry, Owain withdrew. The oldest part of the village is around the old parish church and the 17th century Manor Arms.
