The town of Wythenshawe in Manchester takes its name from an Anglo Saxon phrase meaning “small wood of withy trees†or “willow wood†so accurately dating the settlement of this village as it once was. Agriculture was the mainstay of the local economy and it once was a peaceful and tranquil place to live. Testament to the original wealth generated here by the agricultural industry remains to be seen today in the form of the illustrious halls that remain, Peel Hall, is one of the oldest buildings dating from around the 14th century whilst Wythenshawe Hall set in its own park is still a major attraction today and then is Sharston Hall and Baguley Hall each with its own story to tell.
