Wye is an historic village in Kent, located near Ashford. Its population of villagers is about 2,300 but was expanded by an additional 600 students who would come to study at Wye College, an agricultural college until 2005. The college was founded in 1447 and was part of the University of London and then Imperial College. In 2005 Imperial announced that Wye College would be converted into a research centre. However, following a campaign and the uncovering of a masterplan to sell the college and ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ land off for housing development, the plans were abandoned.
