Smallest town in England, an unspoilt quiet and relaxing resort, positioned on a hill with views over Winchelsea beach. With three Medieval entries into the town, once a thriving centre of trade and scenes of bloody battles. Now luckily the battles have ended, and the surrounding landscape of green valleys, wooded hills and meandering river are a lot quieter. St Thomas The Martyr church has battle scars and shows evidence of past conflicts in the 15th Century when attacked by French raiders. With many local treasures to be discovered such as the museum which is in one of the oldest buildings, the lower floor was once a gaol, and upstairs the Museum exhibits maps, models and artefacts.
