Nestling within the Meon Valley in Hampshire is the market town of Wickham tracing its history back to the Roman Period when it is likely that they built one of the original bridges over the River Meon. The town is around three miles north of Fareham and is notable for the large formal square that dominates the town centre. Wickham though has connections with Winchester College and New College, Oxford, this is attributable to William of Wykeham, born in the late 14th century be went on to become incredibly wealthy and it was his wealth that established these educational centres.
