Ware is a small town that has been central in many ages, dating back to prehistoric times of the Bronze Age and Iron Age and being prominent in, Saxon, Norman and Roman Britain, the town in those times was larger/wealthier than Hertford, which overshadows it now. Based near the River Lea, the Lea Navigation Canal and on the Roman Ermine Street, the town had many coaching inns and was the perfect location for the 17th century malting industry that dominated life, the last of which closed in 1994.
