Wallingford sits on the River Thames, 15 miles from Oxford. It was an old walled Saxon ‘Burh’ town with the remains of the original town walls still visible today. Across the river is the village of Crowmarsh Gifford. The two are linked by Wallingford Bridge, a 900 ft long medieval stone bridge. Wallingford Castle was built by William the Conqueror and demolished by Oliver Cromwell in 1652. The remains can be seen from the Castle Gardens. The arcaded Town Hall was built in 1670 and displays the Town Plate.
