Thurso is a small town on the north-coast in Highlands of Scotland, situated 21 miles north-west of Wick, with the nearest city (Inverness) 110 miles to the south. Thurso the northernmost town on the British mainland and is famous for surfing, the European Surfing Championships have been held here with the waves from the Pentland Firth compared to those in Hawaii. Thurso’s history dates back to Norse rule, ending c1266. The town was an important Norse port trading with Scandinavia in the Middle-Ages.
