Tetbury is a market town in the southern Cotswolds, situated between Cirencester and Bath. The first recorded history of the town was in 681 referring to a well established Saxon Monastery, during the middle ages Tetbury's prosperity grew through the stapling of wool - that is buying and selling. In 1655 the Market House was built for the storage and selling of wool, it is a fine example of a pillared market house and stands prominently in the centre of the town.
When the industrial revolution came so did the decline in Tetbury's wealth, lack of permanently running water meant the mills went to the valleys, fortunately Tetbury's many fine town houses were left untouched.
