Takeley is a small village close to Bishops Stortford and nearly in Essex. It has Bronze Age, Iron Age, Roman and Neolithic roots and was first acknowledged by the Normans in about 1086. The village has since decreased in size significantly from those days due to its land being absorbed by the Stansted airport expansion Contrary to the development is Hatfield Forest – a National Trust country park. Sadly in December 1999, a Boeing 747 taking off from the nearby airport, crashed into the forest killing all on board.
