Speke is to be found just to the South of Liverpool and today is best known for being home to John Lennon Airport, new retails parks and a commercial and industrial centre and not least of all Speke Hall, an important National Trust property and an excellent example of a Tudor Manor house. Speke may well have been a solution to the overcrowding of Liverpool but Speke was originally an agricultural based economy. Many people were moved here before, during and after the Second World War, originally into pre- fab buildings and then into the “Garden City†style of new development that was popular in this era.
